2004 Toyota Camry

CarComplaints.com Notes: Beware of the NHTSA complaint data for the 2004 Camry. It is almost certainly misleading.

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2004 Camry is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models had an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where their data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say 'go to CarComplaints.com to report your Camry acceleration problems' like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2004 Camry, our data for the Camry is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Camry's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

This problem has to do with the power door actuator on the driver door. The malfunction started intermittently at certain temperatures. The door lock on driver side would not work when pressing the remote or pressing the power door lock button on driver door. As the problem progressed the interior door lock button and latch stopped functioning in manual mode. Not allowing the driver to exit the vehicle. The lock does not open anymore and does not override the malfunctioning door actuator. As a result, should I need to quickly egress the vehicle in an emergency such as a fire or otherwise I will not be able to do so. The only way to open the door at this time is to press the power door lock button back and forth until something catches on, and the button opens. However, this will likely not work in an emergency. I've requested that Toyota replace the faulty part, but was informed that given that the vehicle is out of warranty they are not responsible for it. I requested that they take my case to southeastern Toyota upper management to make a decision. According to the Toyota dealer I was at, the service manager for the entire southeastern United States did not agree with my complaint and did not think it was within their duties to replace the part. My investigation into the issue has revealed that this issue repeats with many other vehicles of the same model years 02-06. See the following links: www.toyotanation.com/forum/104-5th-6th-generation-2002-2006-2007-2011/144851-2003-Camry-door-lock-problem.html. it is apparent that this is an issue that Toyota must be aware of and refuses to deal with given that no fatalities have been reported (to the best of my knowledge). However, does someone need to get injured or possibly lose their life until this problem is resolved by the manufacturer? please address this issue.

2004 Toyota Land Cruiser Key Not Locking Door Manually Turn

All three passenger power door locks quit functioning properly. They will still 'lock' but will not 'open' door locks. Hanford Toyota told us the electrical motors became too weak to open the locks. But they all happened at the same time! car had approx 73847 miles on odometer. Repair/replacement cost is approx $300 per door. I feel there could become a dangerous fire potential and should be replaced under recall.

During normal usage of the vehicle. At first intermittent, now continuous. Electronic door locks fail to function. This is a safety issue since the keys can open multiple locks but you can't lock the car the drivers seat.

Driver door lock does not operate. Cannot be opened/closed manually, with key, or remote. Dealer states it is very unusual for this type of failure to occur but offered no financial relief. Car is no longer under warranty. Dealer to replace door lock actuator (approx cost $600).

There is definitely a problem with Toyota Corolla's. My rear right door is having the issue which hundreds of corolla's owners are having. It does not lock /unlock with wireless key. I went to the dealership and they said it will cost 285 for part ( door lock actuator) + 150 dollars for labor to fix. Just for one door lock actuator. This is not acceptable. Toyota needs to recall and fix this issue. I have a friend who has two door lock with the same issue and it cost him more than USD 700 in pats & labor. https://madequesi.tistory.com/15. Toyota has compromised on their quality and need to fix this issue.

During the snowing season I had a very heavy set coworker go with me to get something to eat, ha ha and we rushed to the car to avoid the snow and when he got in the car he slammed the door and it got caught on the seatbelt. Well damn door wouldn't unlock or lock with remote. I had to always manually unlock or lock, and still do. I fixed it once for a while but it started doing it again, now the back seat passenger door does the same thing its just a pain in the ass

First broken door lock actuator was repaired while under warranty (front passenger side), 2nd (rear right passenger side) broke a year ago, even jams sometimes while trying manually to lock, so I don't allow anyone to open that door in case!!! Then the 3rd happened this weekend. Each time you can hear a 'spring' sound that's not right. My driver side door will work once in a while but then today wouldn't lock manually, I had to keep unlocking with my keyless device, then finally was able to manually lock without forcing. Am told it's $220 or so for the part, then $78/hour, could be 2 hours or so per door. Also told this is UNHEARD OF..3??? Then why tell me is it unheard of? I bet the entire batch of actuators on that model in that particular batch of cars was faulty and there have to be some others out there. Am waiting on my rear left passenger door to go! I do not like driving and not knowing if my rear doors are locking or not and having to check each time but I don't have almost $1,000 to spend on stupid door locks!
